Just some fun drawings done for co-workers either as going-away gifts (sadface) or b-day gifts.  Or just to make fun of them.

Sorry for the lack of updates !  I recently moved out of my apt in White Plains and packed up my comp/cintiq etc, and am currently animating away on Ice Age 4.  Speaking of which, Rio finally came out on DVD so I could finally share some of the work I did on this film!  I worked on this film from about Nov 2009 to about Dec (ish) 2010.  So the reel includes an early animation test, production shots, as well as a bit of marketing work.  It was an awesome first film to have worked on and I'm forever grateful for the experience.  Amazingly (intimidatingly) talented team & a Supe who's  the best in the business.

Also I had updated my design portfolio.  Check it out!

When I was at the Art Institute of Seattle ten years ago, I quite honestly had no clue as to what I wanted to for a living.  Probably like a lot of us, I just knew I wanted to "do something in art."

Right then,  I started to come across the work that Disney was doing at the time, and in a flash became inspired to begin to pursue animation.  Quite obsessively actually.   I felt like a total slacker in high school, but animation just ignited something in me and all of a sudden I wanted to... wait for it... work hard!  What?! I now had this pie-in-the-sky dream of being a Disney Animator.

Since then, I've had the good fortune to do a lot of things in this industry,  and I'm forever grateful for every experience I've been blessed with, good and bad.  I've had some amazing experiences w/ amazing people that I wouldn't change for anything.  What helped me pull through the bad was remembering what changed my life in the first place, and why I even wanted to do this.  So, as you can imagine, I feel extremely lucky to say that I've accepted a position as a Character Animator for the Walt Disney Animation Studios, working on their next feature film, Wreck-It Ralph!

It's still pretty surreal to say it.  And I know it's not cool to be this geeky when you're a already a professional, but man,  I GREW UP ON THIS STUFF!

Wish me luck because I'll need it!  Blue Sky Family!  You've all been awesome and the pleasure was all mine.  Thanks for your support everyone!

Yes ! I'll be joining the animation crowd and attending the Creative Talent Expo this weekend! Disney will be doing portfolio & reel reviews at their booth , and I'll be helping out with that on saturday, reviewing from 10AM - 12PM. I'm going to try and make the Animation Mentor party Friday & the Sketchtravel book party Saturday. Other than that I'll be wandering around the aisles spending way too much coin on art books man! Looking forward to seeing everyone !

It's such a great feeling to read all of the positive comments on the internets. Thank you to any and everyone who's dropped me a line or mentioned it. I can't wait for everyone to see the film, it's got so much heart. We're coming up on our last 2 months of animation production, and I'm already starting to miss these characters! A real testament to the commitment of the crew. As romantic or silly as it might sound, Ralph has become a real person to me. I care about how he feels and am proud of him for the decisions that he makes in the film. I sound like a crazy person, but it's true I tell ya.

Ralph animation crew, w/ our director Rich Moore and producer Clark Spencer

Well time flies, last Saturday we reached 100 % done on animation for Wreck-it Ralph!

I can´t wait for you all to see it.  Growing up on these films,  I feel like it brings something fresh to the table and has the heart that comes with the Disney classics.  I´m lucky to have been a part of it, and it goes without saying that it was an honor to work with this crew and to be a part of this legacy.  I remember a bunch of us new guys went up to Glen Keane at his going away toast.  We told him that we were animating on Ralph, he looked at us, put his hand on Isaak´s shoulder and said,
"The new generation."
I really feel that guys like Glen are passing the torch to all of us, no matter what studio, students especially.  He stood on the shoulders of giants, without simply repeating what they did.  That generation had something to say and did it their own way.  We took that inspiration and now it´s our time to step up and push this medium forward!

This was the "A" in ANIMATION that was formerly in front of the hat.  Glen signed the top on his last day.

Crew signing of the Wreck-it Ralph posters.

The animation crew in the hat building´s lobby.
Gathering up for the crew pic

The back of our crew shirt.  Each animator on the team was to caricature his or her officemate.

And this, just because I love pictures of old- timey California. How tiny IS this team.  And look how dapper everyone is!

Some news with me!  Now that we've finished animating on Wreck-it Ralph, I'm going to be taking a step away from animation for a bit, and am pursuing an artist position in Visual Development!  I was lucky enough to be selected for a spot in Disney's Talent development program, starting this fall.  In addition to our portfolios, internal applicants were asked to do an art test.  Here is some of the work I completed, based on the Don Quixote stories.  Very, very much inspired by my recent trip to Spain!   And a big thank you to Katia Grifols for all of her help and giving me a hard time!

This black cat came up to me in El Rompido, in the south of Spain, which inspired my Dulcinea!
Costume and personality inspired by the Carmen showing we saw in Madrid.
Stealing from my hero, Pablo Picasso.
Standing in front of Guernica was truly amazing.
Thanks for checkin it out!  Wish me luck and I'll try not to let you down!
